A straightforward file viewer for Android

Open the file.Get on with it.

That document you just downloaded shouldn't need an office suite. Fileworkbench helps you take a quick look, find what you need and carry on. Right on your phone. Your original stays untouched.

ON YOUR WORKBENCH

For the files that land on your phone.

Not every file needs a whole new workflow. Sometimes you just want to know what is in it.

READ

The document someone sent.

Read an attachment or a download without settling into an editor. Office previews adapt text and tables for a small screen; PDFs and images give you room to zoom.

DOCX · ODT · PDF · images
LOOK CLOSER

The detail inside the data.

Open a JSON tree, expand an XML element or scan a spreadsheet. Switch to the source where supported, find a value and make sense of the structure.

JSON · XML · XLSX · ODS · CSV
MAKE SENSE OF IT

The date in that calendar file.

Read events and tasks as cards. For a supported event, review a draft before sending it to your calendar app. You decide where it goes.

Viewing happens on your device

Your phone. Your file. No round trip.

Fileworkbench itself doesn't connect to the internet or send documents to a conversion service. It uses Android's file picker to open what you choose. A cloud storage provider or another app you open the file with can still have its own network connection.

THE FORMAT REFERENCE

A useful set of tools. Clear limits.

Read-only means exactly that. The aim is to help you see the contents, not to replace every specialist editor.

FilesWhat you can see
DOCX · ODTReadable text, lists, supported images and tables. Simplified layout, not exact page formatting.
PPTX · ODPSlide content as text, images and tables. The original slide arrangement is not reproduced.
XLSX · ODS · CSVTable previews. No formula recalculation or spreadsheet charts.
JSON · XMLExpandable structures, source views and search.
PDF · imagesPage browsing, zoom and fit controls. No OCR or PDF text search.
ICSEvent and task cards; supported single-event drafts for another calendar app. No calendar sync or full recurring-series import.
Text · MarkdownText and basic Markdown reading.

STRAIGHT ANSWERS

Before you put it to work.

Can I edit a file?

Fileworkbench is for viewing. You can save or share a copy, or open the original in another app when you need to edit it.

Will it look exactly like the original?

Office files use simplified reading layouts. Some formatting, charts and complex objects may be missing. If the exact layout matters, open the original in a suitable application.

Is there an iPhone version?

The focus is Android. The shared core leaves room for other platforms, but there is no released iOS app.
